about

The Bay Area of Northern California is a breeding ground for so many bands in the heavy music genre that range from everything from Metal, Punk, to Noise. May we introduce to you, The Sorority…

The Sorority is a heavy rock/noise band formed in 2014 in Oakland, CA with a sound consisting of elements from such bands as The Melvins, Coliseum, The Bronx, and Unsane. They are relatively new to the scene as a band, but individually these 4 guys have been playing and touring in their own respective projects for many years. They’ve finally decided to go back to their harsh and aggressive roots, with their years of experience, and deliver something heavy on the scene.

Members include Cliff Greenwood (Union of the Dead) vocals, Matt Mckenzie (Tsunami Bomb, The Action Design) guitar, Jake Krohn (The Action Design, Identical Homes) drums, and Bobby Wilcox (Jonny Manak and the Depressives) bass. This digital download is their first official release offered to the masses of the underground music community. An independent demo was released previously after one month of the band forming. This self-titled EP was recorded by the band in their Oakland rehearsal space, and mixed at Green Day’s Jingletown Recording with the help of Lee Bothwick.

The songwriting is structured with frantic riffs and chord changes that are saturated in heavy, abrasive tones. Their material is constantly evolving from straight forward rock, to more complex and experimental noise, and this EP is no exception.

Seeing them live reinforces this testimony of a band that is loud, chaotic, and gut rattling.

The Sorority is a midlife crisis. It’s about going back and finishing what you started.

Track Name: The Curse of Lono
Look at him, he's still kneeling
Petrified, he prays for healing
I should've let his people go
So Judas can consume us all now
Look at us, we're dressed for violence
Like genocide except it kills with silence
The hottest place in hell is for those
Over and done, and tongue-tied
A Cursed land. My hands are bleeding.
Blisters on my feet, I'm kneeling
Learned about the Curse of Lono
When I was quarantined
Burned and blistering
Break out
Remove our fingernails
And erase our fates
They're riddled on the walls and in our wakes
The silent die, right with the guile
Burning in the current of paradise
Look at us, no time for riots
Too frail, too sick for violence
That's the way we outta to be
When Lono's collecting.
Too possessed by screen diseases
To understand the need for treason
The Curse of Lono is dutiful
And tentative as time
Indifferently unaligned
Break out
Remove our fingernails
And erase our fates
They're riddled on the walls and in our wakes
The silent die, right with the guile
Burning in the current of paradise
Someday the city of refuge will be our fate
Track Name: The Hotlands
I called the dogs off myself yesterday
But they were on holiday
We’re on our own
Be vigilant and brave
Constant and locked in
Stationary waves
My respirator whispers my campaign
And I’m drained
Taking all the fun out of death
Always be alert and well armed
This is out of our hands
Vigilantes of the hot lands
Medicate and disarm
Your solution to keep the guns at bay
We’re on our own
Be vigilant and sane
Constantly locked in
Stationary waves
My respirator whispers my campaign
And I’m drained
Taking all the fun out of death
Always be alert and well armed
This is out of our hands
Vigilantes of the hot lands
Always be alert and well armed
There’s no solution to your revolution
Track Name: Critical Massacre
His course smelled like carrion
He tried to die, but he carried on
Divorced widow-maker
Benign barbarian
They let him drop like a glide bomb
And cut him off with no qualms
Martyrized in god’s acre
Where you sang the same old song
“They killed my baby,
called me crazy,
here they saved me.”
But this is where the clouds cover the sun,
Now you’re the chosen one.
Top of the mountain
Clouds bleed through fountains
Heathens are the reason
Blood is flooding the kingdom
Like sell swords, they’re heartless
Helpless and desperate
Living lives of death threats
Blood is flooding the kingdom
Critical Massacre
Heathen’s souls
Inimical, it’s criminal
Critical Massacre
Heathen’s Souls
Inimical miracle
It’s critical
Massacre
