The Bay Area of Northern California is a breeding ground for so many bands in the heavy music genre that range from everything from Metal, Punk, to Noise. May we introduce to you, The Sorority…
The Sorority is a heavy rock/noise band formed in 2014 in Oakland, CA with a sound consisting of elements from such bands as The Melvins, Coliseum, The Bronx, and Unsane. They are relatively new to the scene as a band, but individually these 4 guys have been playing and touring in their own respective projects for many years. They’ve finally decided to go back to their harsh and aggressive roots, with their years of experience, and deliver something heavy on the scene.
Members include Cliff Greenwood (Union of the Dead) vocals, Matt Mckenzie (Tsunami Bomb, The Action Design) guitar, Jake Krohn (The Action Design, Identical Homes) drums, and Bobby Wilcox (Jonny Manak and the Depressives) bass. This digital download is their first official release offered to the masses of the underground music community. An independent demo was released previously after one month of the band forming. This self-titled EP was recorded by the band in their Oakland rehearsal space, and mixed at Green Day’s Jingletown Recording with the help of Lee Bothwick.
The songwriting is structured with frantic riffs and chord changes that are saturated in heavy, abrasive tones. Their material is constantly evolving from straight forward rock, to more complex and experimental noise, and this EP is no exception.
Seeing them live reinforces this testimony of a band that is loud, chaotic, and gut rattling.
The Sorority is a midlife crisis. It’s about going back and finishing what you started.
